It’s hard to picture Margate without Lucy the Elephant. Since 1881, she’s stood watch over our beaches. As you can imagine, Lucy needs some TLC. Over the years, she’s seen her fair share of stranded animals along the Jersey shoreline. Next Wednesday, she’s willing to share the spotlight at a special Jersey Shore fundraiser to benefit her as well as the Marine Mammals Stranding Center.

Jersey Shore Fundraiser in Margate
From 7pm to 9pm, Lucy the Elephant hosts a special Jersey Shore fundraiser all around her. Enjoy live musical performances by the Atlantic City All-Star Band and Fun Wave. And forget paying for street parking. It’s free during the event. BYOBC/BYOB, ie, bring your own beach chairs or bring your own blankets for comfort. While admission is free, this is a fundraiser. So, any donations made are greatly appreciated.
Marine Mammals Stranding Center
What is the Marine Mammals Stranding Center and what do they do? This privately funded center started back in 1978. A small staff and hundreds of volunteers provide the only marine animal rescue along the entire Jersey shoreline. Over the years, they’ve rescued thousands of sea turtles, seals and whales stranded on the beach. They receive no money from the government. Their funding depends entirely on grants, private donations, membership and fundraisers like this one.
As summer winds down, make plans to attend the Jersey Shore fundraiser at Lucy the Elephant on Wednesday. Spend a night at the beach while raising money to help creatures great and small…fake and real. Please give whatever you can afford. Thank you!
